With the hope of loosening up a little, I chose a subject dear to my heart.

Spark, 6" x 5" -sold-

I have been very surprised by how well this series of paintings is going. Some are better than others. But each day, with each of these paintings, I have a quick opportunity to try something new, to build on the successes and failures of the previous attempts. While this is true of every painting, no matter the scale, practice and theory often conflict. With a larger painting, the expectations are higher. You know that you may well be pushing the paint around for days, not hours. That time is also a crutch. Why fuss over a detail, a color, a composition, when you can take care of it tomorrow. These small paintings force your hand.

13 paintings resting on a scrap of lumber.
