This weekend, tomorrow, a rambunctious group of generous friends is showing up for a barn raising. This motley group is a small slice of an on-line motorcycle community I've been active in for more than five years. We swap barbs, jokes, and stories over in a place known as Adventure Rider. It's easy to snicker at the idea of an on-line community. I know I usually do. But something sets this place and some other on-line motorcycle forums. Our passion for riding that brings us together on-line allows us to get together in 'real' life. On any given day, riders are meeting over coffee or at a campfire. Sometimes locally, sometimes after riding thousands of miles just to shake hands.

I could say more, but I am exhausted trying to get everything together for this event. There are more than a few loose ends to tie up. A dozen or so people are arriving. Some from down the street, some from six hundred miles away. Some skilled carpenters, some not to be allowed to pick up any tool. They'll take the excuse for the ride, but most of all they're a very giving group. I am humbled and honored that some very good people would take the time out of their busy schedules to help me with this project.

I'll have more photos and more stories very soon.If you're in the Portland area, feel free to come by for the festivities. The grill will be working hard and I'll be the guy simultaneously dancing with joy, pounding his thumbs with hammers, and just trying to stay awake. For directions, send me a note. The latest plans for the building...

can’t wait to see the paintings - wish i could be out to pitch in (i’d take grill duty, no person in their right mind wants me involved with construction)

I’m sure this episode will spawn a long series of decisions about what color to paint not only the studio, but your home, as well.

Enjoy!
