It began innocently enough as another Habanero. But it's pudgy barrel shape refused to take on any form in the painting. The painting refused to be anything but a paint by numbers representation of a little pepper sitting under a light on a stack of boards. More and more paint was thrown at it in a futile attempt to find a glimmer of spark. Bold use of paint, of course, marks the best pieces. So if I just use enough paint, it'll be a good painting.
Even after a second attempt at it (a first for this series) after a few days away, it went from bland to bad. Number 23 will never see the light of day.
The purple stalks are a reason to paint.
Beet, 6" x 4", sold

I'm uncertain about these apple. The presentation with the bright background doesn't lend itself to a dramatic painting, but I wanted to move the ladder a littler further away from the net.
