Having seen what a series of small paintings did for a good friend, I wanted to see what they could do for me. And so I too started a series of new paintings. They were to be small, executed in a single sitting, and done daily. And they were to be done from life. The initial aim, to train my hand and my eye. The hope of doing them daily has given way to the realities of time, or the lack there of. I have begun them afresh and a few new pieces are being done each week.

The results have surprised me to say the least. Nearly every day I find myself marveling at the shape of a pear, the glow of a pepper, or the dance of light on a hammer.

Below is an inventory of the more succesful paintings in this series. Unless otherwise noted, they are currently priced at $300 + shipping. If you'd like to purchase one, please contact me via the link at the top of the page.

I enjoy your work, Scott. But one of the things I’m impressed with is how you combine art and commerce. It’s unusual to find talent coming from someone who also has their act together. The discipline of giving others access to your work through a current web site, updates, etc. Keep it going.

David,
Thank you. That may be the first time anyone has said I have my act together. Jokes aside, unless I tell people about the work, there’s little chance anything will happen. This obvious point is somehow lost on most of us - myself included.

At Cooter Brown’s I fell in love wih your Chairman Mao. My wife (at the time, now ex-) commisioned you to reproduce him for me and he is treasured still. “Habanero 2” also speaks to me in a special way. I wonder if you could do a slightly larger work in that spirit for me.

R.Lee,
Wow. I can’t believe I missed this last comment (considering whose blog it is, I don’t have much of an excuse).

I remember sculpting that Mao. I always wonder what happens to a piece after it’s left my hands.

I could do something larger. Please send me an e-mail when you can.
