In the midst of the tornado/train/vortex/-insert metaphor-, there is some unadulterated good. Tomorrow night, at Portland City Hall, there is a reception celebrating 10 years of
Portland Open Studios. More than 80 artists are participated with artwork 10 inches and under (in other words, small and relatively affordable). The menagerie of works covers the spectrum of medium and subject matter.
Sit and Beg, 7" x 8", oil on panel
In addition, at the reception the Mayor will be unveiling the purchase prize gift, a piece of artwork, not related to the show, by one of the participating artists. This piece will enter the permanent collection and hang at City Hall. In other words, this is a big deal. The identity of the piece and its creator has been a closely guarded secret. While I can't say if one of my pieces was chosen, I can say that I'm really looking forward to tomorrow. I hope to see you there.

I would not be surprised if Portland’s mayor wants a pork chop painting. His interest in meat is well known
Is it a conflict of interest for the mayor to sit as President on a municipal committee or organisation. Is this something that commonly happens. I am aware that mayors often sit on various committees, but what type of role do they usually play? Do they have a vote?
